March

With March has come beautiful weather.  The idea of Spring toys with all our minds, though I have a sinking suspicion deep within me that the brutality of winter is not over just yet.  We shall just have to wait and see, being that weather here is less predictable than Michigan, which is saying a great deal.  This week has, once again, been full of studying, reading, and writing papers; the work that reminds me I am not on vacation after all.  Because of night class, both my Monday's and Thursday's are filled with about eight hours of class each. I still have only one class on the other days, yet the workload has seemed to increase greatly. On a different note, this week has been the Beer Festival in Reykjavik.  For many years, from 1915 to 1989, beer was banned in Iceland.  On March 1, 1989 the ban was lifted, thus a celebration.  The entire week, Kex Hostel has put on this beer festival, handing out free beer to anyone who wishes to partake.  Needless to say, we made our way down to the festival Friday night to experience it for ourselves.  It was a very fun little festival indeed. Saturday I woke up with the intention of studying most of the day, though as soon as I looked out the window and saw the sun I decided I needed some fresh air.  A short walk down to the seashore turned into a five hour walk around the entire peninsula.  Oops. It was a beautiful and refreshing walk though.  By the time I was unknowingly halfway around the peninsula, I found a map and decided to continue around the other half. Unbeknownst to me, the second half was much further than the first, and weaved through town, compared to merely following the seashore as the first did.  Multiple points throughout my journey I had not a clue as to where I was. Luckily, I finally found a street name I recognized and was able to follow it home. Today, I am trying my best to read through yet another Icelandic saga and attempting to study for an exam I have tomorrow.  So very difficult with the sun shining through my window.
